EeePCLInuxOS Beta 3-1 Released to torrent

It is my pleasure to announce after a long time of hard war the initial release of Beta 3-1.

The Beta 3-1 release was supposed to be a maintenance release for Beta 3. There were some issues with wireless and stability with the 2.6.24 kernel. The initial goal was to fix those issues and release 3-1. In fixing some issues problems arose which encourage a “rethinking” of how the current build system worked. Instead of simply changing a configuration file and then doing a remaster it was decided that it would benefit everyone if the changes where packaged as rpms and has since lead to us maintaining our own small repository. It took a lot of time to start from the ground up again doing the changes that were needed and then finding ways to package those changes in the middle of the final RC release for 3-1, but it was done. There's a few changes that are different then the Beta 3 release.

The Test

Hello everybody,

We're thinking about shaking things up here at MyPCLinuxOS. Right now, we offer a forum and this wiki/blog. However, you have to register once for the forum and once for the wiki. In the same way the logins are separate. We'd like to do something about this.

We've also noticed it would be great if we could offer you some additional features -like a bugtracker- and a better integration between those components so you don't have to register or login multiple times on the same site. In an effort to see what this would look like, DidouPh has set up http://test.mypclinuxos.com as a test portal for the PCLOS-i18n team.

This portal includes several features like a wiki, a blog, and a bugtracker. We would like you all to have a look at it and test drive it.

DidouPh migrated the user database from MyPClinuxOS as well as the forum (the test forum is now PHPBB3) so no need to register again. However, you may need to reset your password.

PCLinuxOS Quarterly Update Project

A new project has been started in the forum! The goal of this project will be to provide fully updated, tested, and ready to run ISOs of PCLinuxOS about every 90 days. The first release is aiming for 3 months after the highly anticipated official release of the main edition of PCLinuxOS 2008.

Over the next few weeks, in preparation for this undertaking, we will be setting up the forum and gathering questions and information as to how best to pull this off, and the issues we may encounter along the way.

Anyone with experience in remastering, and especially how to keep those remasters as clean, stable, and as small as possible is certainly welcome to jump right in and help us out. We will need testers with a variety of hardware too.

We hope this project will be of benefit to all, and especially newcomers to PCLinuxOS, saving them much time, and worry, updating brand new installs.

gtk-liveinstall first beta test release

After a fair number of alpha releases and a lot of behind the scenes work, I am pleased to announce the first public beta release of the gtk-liveinstall script.

This release is version 0.7.8-1 and marks the first time the script has been available as a complete RPM.

For anyone who doesn’t know, this script/application will help a user to create a ‘live’ or ‘poor man’s’ installation of any version of the PCLOS family. Most people will want to create a live USB installation, but the script works equally well on internal hard drives and flash media devices and can be useful on older hardware where a regular installation is not possible…
