Hi guys and gals, I've got my hands on the wiki that was at www.docs.pclinuxos.com and am working to get it installed on the main server for pclinuxos. I've run into a dilema though, and I need your honest opinions. I'm unsure why there are 4 MySql data bases as there should only be 1 from what I've read about installing docmint wiki. Secondly, I'm unsure of the settings that were previously used, or what might have been set prior to being backed up for transfer to the current devs. How many would be totally opposed to starting the wiki from scratch with current screenshots and information? I'm going to hold off setting it up until I have responses from all those who participated in building the wiki. I'd also like you to know, ONCE it's set up, it will stay set up. I won't be changing it. Cindy aka Linuxera. PCLOS sysadmin.

Is icecruncher still around? He used to put a lot of work into the wiki, back in the day.

Tex was of the same opinion. We're just not sure about the data bases.

personally, I think mediawiki is the better choice. first, it's more common and more people are exposed to posting to it.
second, it's probably the best supported Wiki software available.
just my opinion.
Also, 4 db's to one wiki is probably due to the many 'do-overs' they attempted so many times trying to build up interest and get a wiki up.
Sounds like a right nightmare to me to piece that broken shell together, but if you got the time and some krazy glue, knock yerself out I guess.
a fresh start to help with the 'new' community direction and fell might be the better direction in this situation.

A fresh start with one (1) database would be a good thing, IMO.
I'll put in a bit of time, here and there, to help out, and do what I can, where I can.

Is the current docs.pclinuxos.com wiki the new one or the old? I ask because at the bottom of the main wiki page is says: This page was last modified on 19 March 2009... Powered by MediaWiki It would seem that the current wiki is already MediaWiki, and not a Docmint Wiki... Is it possible that those databases are not even related to the current wiki??

Now that's a darned good question travis. I was passed documint and the related databases, so it's looking more and more like we are going with a fresh install.
I'll get with the program shortly here. I've just been waiting for ample input before I go off the deep end here and start it. Since it will be on the main site, all the links to it will need to be changed once it's up and running and we've got some input.
Icecruncher was one of the main guys working on the wiki but he has since departed and moved on to 'another' distro.
Thanks for all the advice/comments/input and offers for help.

FWIW, I made the last "update" to the Wiki back in March. I added a couple of new topics to it. At that time, IceCruncher had not yet left the PCLinuxOS camp.
And, on another FWIW, I think a "re-do" is in order. So many "restarts" occurred with the old Wiki, that LOTS of information was lost. The "old Wiki" used to contain all kinds of useful data that never seemed to re-appear or made it over to the "new Wiki" after one of the many course changes the "new Wiki" went through. Whatever the redo is, it needs to be simple to navigate (the current incarnation is not, IMHO ... too many sub-categories that either don't make since or aren't too intuitive to use to find the information ... it's too much like a scavenger hunt game to find what is needed at times).
I do wonder if one of the SQL databases contain the "lost" Wiki data. Barring that, I wonder if Google archive can be of assistance in rescuing the "lost" Wiki data.

I have all 4 data bases, depending on the dates they were 'backed' up, I'll do an install of mediawiki on my own server and see if any of them fit the bill. Maybe one will.
So, concensus is Media Wiki then ?
